Your Core Network Terminal in Finland

We manage RRT East and RRT West rail and road terminals in Kouvola, Finland as a landlord company. We lease terminal areas and spaces to businesses and develop terminal infrastructure as well as safety and environmental solutions in collaboration with other stakeholders.

RRT East is the only rail and road terminal of the TEN-T Core Network in Finland.

History

The Tehola area in Kouvola has grown into a significant logistics hub since the 1990s. Our older terminal, RRT West (KCY), was constructed in the early 2000s to serve transit traffic heading east. At that time, Tehola hosted approximately 67,000 square meters of logistics properties. By the 2020s, the area’s logistics facilities had expanded to cover 136,000 square meters.

Eastern traffic has been a key driver for logistics companies in the area, although local and national traffic have also always played a role. During the 2010s, rail freight traffic from Asia emerged as a promising future opportunity. With RRT West (KCY) operating at a high utilization rate throughout the early 2000s, Kouvola decided to strengthen infrastructure supporting rail freight. With funding from EU, the state and the city of Kouvola, Finland’s only rail and road terminal included in the EU’s TEN-T Core Network was developed.

However, before the new RRT East terminal could be completed, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 brought rail traffic across the Finland-Russia border to a halt. This created an entirely new situation for logistics operators in Kouvola.

Finland's Only Rail and Road Terminal in the EU TEN-T Core Network

Opened in 2023, RRT East is the only inland terminal in Finland included in the EU’s TEN-T Core Network. The TEN-T Network (Trans-European Transport Network) encompasses all modes of transport: air, sea, rail, and road, as well as related ports, airports, terminals, and border-crossing points.

Through our terminals you can reach all of Europe
